Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. Friday with a prayer service at 7:00 pm at the United Church of Christ.
Jimmi Rose was born on December 16, 1987 to Harley and Dawn (Gilman) Cable. She graduated from Kimball High School in 2006 and attended Northwestern College in Powell, WY, until 2008, on a livestock judging scholarship. Following her passion of working with cattle, Jimmi ventured to Texas and worked closely with an embryologist, under the guidance of a special cousin, Russell Cable. Jimmi returned to South Dakota in 2010, and attended Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown, SD, for cosmetology. Jimmi Rose was united in marriage to Paul Van Gerpen, on September 28, 2013, and successfully opened her own business, No Limits Salon and Spa, in Avon, SD.
Jimmi Rose's passion for animals was obvious and her daddy said it best, "She just loved animals from her horses, to show cattle, to Doctor Watson, her favorite Basset Hound." Jimmi's eidetic memory when judging livestock served her well, earning her many awards, including All-American status at the high school and collegiate levels. Additionally, this passion fostered her abilities to be extremely successful when showing cattle, which she also won many awards.
From the time Jimmi Rose could walk, she loved her horses. With her jeans tucked in the top of her boots, she was either on top of a big horse, or was leading one behind her. She was a young victor at many local Play Days, and qualified for the state 4-H finals at the early age of nine. She and her special horse, Joe, made quite a duo, in both the barrels and pole bending.
Undeniably, Jimmi Rose was a "daddy's girl"; however, her sister Kari Ann and Momma were her besties. Her unique ability to make everyone around her more beautiful, coupled with her education, made her a very successful beautician and cosmetologist. With a flare and style all of her own, Jimmi's beauty was apparent, even when she was doing what she loved most, just going out for a ride on one of her favorite horses, Ruthie or Foxie.
While Jimmi's time on this earth was cut short, the special relationships she established, the memories she created with her family and friends, and the little cowgirls she mentored, and the smiles she brought to all who knew and loved her, will foster peace in our hearts and patience in our minds until we see Jimmi Rose again. For now, Jimmi will serve as a guardian angel, to those who knew and loved her.
Jimmi passed away at Avera St. Michael's Hospital in Tyndall, SD as the result of a car accident on December 21, 2014 at the age of 27 years.
Gratefully sharing in her life are her husband Paul Van Gerpen of Avon; her parents Harley and Dawn Cable of Pukwana; sister Kari Ann Cable of Pukwana; maternal grandparents Jim and Karen Gilman of Kennebec; father and mother-in-law Rodney and Connie Van Gerpen of Avon; sister-in-law Hilary Van Gerpen of Avon; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
